Survey on Radioactive Concentration in Natural Foods in Korea

Abstract
With the development in the various fields of industry, the utilization of radioactive materials and nuclide fuels, and the environmental radioactive contaminations attended by that are being increased respectively. Therefore, to evaluate and predict the radioactive concentration level being contained in natural food-stuff in Korea, radionuclide analysis and measurement of radioactivity were carried out as following :
1. 11 kinds of natural food-stuff, venerability food-stuff commonly used in food life, were selected in 8 regions in Korea
2. 51 sorts of food-stuff, produced in summer season, were collected and analysed by gamma-ray spectrometry.
3. 38 sorts of food-stuff, produced in autumn season, were collected and analysed by gamma-ray spectrometry too.
By the results of analysis, however, radioactive potassium (K-40), nature born nuclide, was detected in the all food-stuff, artificial radionuclides, such as Cs-137, Cs-134, and Co-60, etc. were free. And the other nature born nuclides in the natural decay series, were detected, however, the activities were not meaningfulness.
Therefore these results represent that so far, our country seems to be free in the radioactive contaminations, but like this analysis should not be correctly evaluated at once, for this reason like, this study will be carried out continuously for several on scores of years.
